Alethea is an experienced psychologist working with individuals diagnosed with a brain and/or spinal cord injury. Alethea works with the individual, and the family if appropriate, to achieve individually identified treatment goals. Her areas of expertise include rehabilitation, specifically the adjustment to the injury, subsequent mood concerns, trauma, behavioural difficulties, and premorbid mental health concerns exasperated by the injury.
Alethea is also experienced in providing treatments for adolescents and young adults facing many different types of general life and mental health concerns. These areas include anxiety disorders, mood disorders including depression, early onset psychosis, and adjustment to changes in the family, relationships, schooling or work environment.
Alethea believes strongly in a multidisciplinary treatment approach, where appropriate. She works closely with case workers, psychiatrists, social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and schools to gain/achieve the best treatment outcomes for her clients. She uses a person-centred approach to therapy primarily using cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT), along with solution focussed therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
Alethea has a Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology), has full registration with Psychology Board of Australia and is a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS), the Brain Injury Association of NSW (BIA) and the Australasian Society for the Study of Brain Impairment (ASSBI).
